The Need to Regulate "Designer Babies"

The cover story of the New York Daily News had a headline saying “Design Your Baby.” The headline was telling parents that they were allowed to choose their baby’s hair, eye, and skin color. Then the Fertility Institutes pulled the information back by saying they wasn’t going to do it. The use and abuse of advanced fertility technology that evokes fears of Gatta and the Nazis’ quest for a blonde, blue-eyed race of Aryans continues aspace. The Fertility Institute pulled the screening back after an unemployed mother gave birth to octuplets through in vitro fertilization. The preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) technique is used to test embryos before implantation in the womb. By doing that it could tell the mother if there are any diseases in the offspring.
